Cashiers is a small town in Jackson County, North Carolina, nestled on a plateau in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The population swells to over 2,000 in the summer and fall months, when tourists flock to the area to driving directions take advantage of the pleasant weather and plethora of outdoor activities available. The Village Green is a 13.2 acre park in the middle of town that hosts botanical gardens, art exhibitions, walking routes, and seasonal events. The "Shadow of the Bear," a phenomenon in which the shadows of the surrounding mountains take the shape of a bear for only 30 minutes every day, is a wonderful surprise for tourists who arrive in the autumn to see the brilliant foliage.
