Dumb question, but this is day 3 of struggling to figure out how to install patches. Could someone please make a easier to read tutorial on how to do it? I know this isn't a ctc issue, but apktool doesn't work for me. Anyone please help.

Are you trying to mod the app, or are you trying to just use it? If you're just trying to use it, I recommend using the prebuilt ones: https://gitdab.com/distok/cutthecord#user-content-binaries-apk
